Iran Attack On Israel Launches Unprecedented Missile And Drone
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Iran launched an unprecedented Iran attack on Israel. Firing over 200 ballistic missiles and drones at numerous targets across the country including the heavily populated city of Jerusalem. Loud explosions and air raid sirens were heard throughout Israeli cities as the military scrambled to intercept the incoming projectiles raining down from Iran. It marked the first direct military action Iran has taken against Israel.
The scale of Iran’s Iran attack was massive, utilizing drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles in coordinated strikes. According to Israeli military officials, the majority were intercepted by the country’s advanced air defense system. However some were able to penetrate and impact Israeli soil. A young girl was seriously injured by a missile that struck her home in a southern village.
International Reaction
The international community strongly condemned Iran’s Iran attack on Israel. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned that the strikes risked triggering a wider conflict. Both France and the UK called on Iran to cease its “reckless and belligerent” actions. While Germany stated that Iran and its proxies “must stop” such attacks immediately to prevent further escalation.
In Washington, US President Joe Biden said American forces helped Israel shoot down nearly all of the drones and missiles launched in Iran’s Iran attack and that the US would work with allies on a coordinated response. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Biden and vowed to respond forcefully if necessary to defend his country against further Iranian aggression and attacks.
