Preliminary Autopsy Results Reveal Riley Strain Death Was Accidental
The preliminary autopsy results for 22-year-old Riley Strain revealed that his death appears to have been accidental, according to officials from the Metro Nashville Police Department. Riley Strain, a student at Missouri college, had been missing for two weeks after being asked to leave a downtown Nashville bar during a spring break trip with his fraternity brothers.
His body was discovered on March 18th approximately eight miles from where he was last seen on surveillance footage wandering around the city’s downtown area at times appearing unsteady on his feet. Detective Kris Mumford told reporters that based on the initial examination by the medical examiner, there were no obvious signs of foul play involved in Riley Strain’s death. However, toxicology results are still pending and may provide additional insight.
No Apparent Criminal Cause
Mumford noted that the detective present at the autopsy said the preliminary findings were consistent with an accidental death for Riley Strain. Officials will not consider the case closed until all testing is complete, but at this stage there is no indication of any criminal involvement. The circumstances of how the 22-year-old college student ended up in the location where his remains were found nearly two weeks later remain unclear.
His body was discovered in a wooded area approximately eight miles north of downtown Nashville, close to where Riley Strain was last seen on surveillance video on March 12th after being asked to leave Luke’s 32 Bridge Food and Drink. His bank card had previously been recovered on March 17th near the Cumberland River, according to police. A final autopsy report is pending further investigation and toxicology results, but at this preliminary stage Riley Strain’s death is believed to have been accidental in nature with no signs of foul play.
