Twitch Mobile Gets a Major Refresh with New Discovery Features
Twitch, the livestreaming giant popular for gaming content, has announced plans for a significant update to its mobile app. CEO Dan Clancy revealed in a letter that the app will receive its first major redesign since 2019, completely overhauling the experience to center around discovery of new Twitch streams and creators.
At the heart of the changes is making the discovery feed, which currently exists as a “test” feature, the new default landing page. This will allow users to easily see live and recommended streams in one place. Clancy said the goal is to deliver “a more modern, immersive viewing experience” centered on discovery of new Twitch content.
New Tools for Creators
In addition to improving discovery, the updated Twitch mobile app will add new creation tools. Users will be able to upload and share short video stories directly from their phones. The clip editor is also being enhanced to simplify sharing clips to other social platforms like Instagram. Mod tools will also come to mobile for the first time, moving the important moderation features onto any device.
The planned changes represent the most significant update to the Twitch mobile experience in years. By focusing on discovery and new social sharing options, the service hopes to better connect viewers with new livestreams and creators. The overhaul is expected to launch later in 2022, bringing a refreshed take on streaming discovery and engagement directly onto smartphones.
