Chinese Foreign Minister Warns Against Cutting Ties With China
Wang Yi, also known as the Chinese foreign minister, spoke to international leaders at the annual gathering. He acknowledged that some countries want to diversify trade partners away from China due to concerns about over-reliance. However, he said completely cutting China out is not the solution and would only create problems.
In his speech, Wang pointed out that the global economy has become highly interconnected. No single country can prosper on its own anymore without cooperating and trading with others. “The world economy is like a big ocean that cannot be cut into isolated lakes,” he stated. Trying to separate China or any major player from this system would disrupt the entire global trade network and undermine stability, according to Wang.
Wang Makes His Case
In a more casual tone, Wang made the case that even if countries want to reduce dependence on China, completely cutting ties is taking it too far. Isolation will not address supply chain vulnerabilities or policy disagreements in a constructive way, he argued. Wang acknowledged China still has room for improvement in some areas but said the path forward is through cooperation and open dialogue, not severing economic links. Overall, Wang’s message was that all countries stand to lose from a trade war or decoupling from China. Continued engagement and finding balanced solutions are in everyone’s best interests.
While some nations see reducing reliance on China as a strategic priority, Wang believes this should be a gradual, mutually agreed process – not an abrupt severing of ties. As the Chinese foreign minister, he will continue making China’s case for remaining a pivotal part of global trade networks. Only open cooperation, not isolationism, can ensure long-term stability and prosperity for all, according to Wang.
