2 Hydro One Workers Injured At Work
An incident that occurred while two workers from Hydro One were performing maintenance on a transmission tower has left both employees seriously injured and prompted a Ministry of Labour investigation. The occurrence near Petersburg, Ontario on Thursday morning saw one worker airlifted with critical injuries after reportedly falling from the tower. A second worker was also hurt in the incident involving Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution provider, Hydro One.
Emergency responders were called to the scene on Notre Dame Drive around 11:10am after the incident took place. Ornge air ambulance service transported one of the Hydro One employees who is in their 30s to a local hospital with critical injuries sustained from an apparent fall. Details on the nature and cause of the second worker’s injuries have not been disclosed at this time.
Ministry Investigating Safety Protocols
A spokesperson for Hydro One expressed gratitude to first responders for their swift action in providing care to the injured workers. They further stated that the utility company would be cooperating fully with the Ministry of Labour’s investigation into the incident. The ministry’s investigation will seek to determine if adequate safety protocols were followed and what may have led to the injuries sustained by the two transmission tower technicians employed by Ontario’s largest electricity provider.
