M3 MacBook Air Delivers Blazing Fast Storage Speeds

Apple’s latest M3 MacBook Air comes with improved internals that provide up to 82% quicker read speeds and 33% faster write speeds compared to the M2 model. This allows users to access files and launch apps in a flash.

A teardown revealed Apple ditched the single 256GB flash storage module in favor of two 128GB chips for the base model. “By using two flash storage chips instead of one, the M3 MacBook Air’s storage can process data requests simultaneously,” explained analyst Max Tech.

Testing showed the M3 MacBook hitting write speeds up to 2108 MB/s and read speeds of 2880 MB/s. This blows past the M2’s speeds of 1584 MB/s for writes and 1576 MB/s for reads. The dual flash setup matches and sometimes exceeds speeds from the M1 Air.

The Secret to Speed

M3 MacBook Air

Apple’s switch to a dual-chip storage design for the entry-level M3 MacBook Air unlocked significantly quicker SSD performance. While the M2 used a single 256GB chip that couldn’t read and write concurrently, the M3 model leverages two 128GB modules working in tandem. This parallel processing allows the M3 MacBook Air to access and launch files much faster than its predecessor.

The new base model M3 MacBook Air proves Apple listened to feedback about slow SSDs. By opting for a dual flash storage approach, the latest M3 MacBook delivers blazing quick storage speeds that boost productivity and reduce waiting. Whether browsing documents or launching apps, users will appreciate the impressive I/O performance gains over the M2 generation.

In conclusion, the M3 MacBook Air stands out for its revamped internals headlined by a dual-chip SSD design. This simple but effective change resulted in read and write speeds up to 82% and 33% quicker respectively compared to the M2 Air. The enhanced storage throughput allows the M3 MacBook to feel instantly responsive for all common tasks.
