RFK Jr’s Surprising Vice Presidential Shortlist Choices Create Buzz
Bobby Kennedy Jr is shaking things up with his rumored choices for a running mate. In a surprise move, the environmental lawyer and president of Waterkeeper Alliance is said to have included Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former professional wrestler and Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura on his early vice presidential shortlist, according to a BBC news report.
The consideration of Rodgers and Ventura, both known for bucking conventions, represents a departure from more traditional political paths. At 38, Rodgers is in his prime as an NFL star but has no political experience. Meanwhile, the outspoken Ventura served one term as governor from 1999 to 2003 but has not held office since. Both men would bring high name recognition and controversy as potential picks.
The ‘Outsider’ Appeal
RFK Jr appears to be exploring choices that could energize outsider and anti-establishment voters. As a member of the famous political family who was assassinated during his 1968 presidential run, RFK Jr would be running as a Democrat but may seek to attract independents and some Republicans frustrated with the status quo. Rodgers and Ventura’s unconventional and outsider brands could help with such cross-over appeal in the vice presidential shortlist.
Of course, selecting either Rodgers or Ventura would be a highly unusual and risky maneuver with no guarantee of success. But it shows RFK Jr is willing to think outside the box in considering partners who could shake up a general election race in unexpected ways. Most political pundits are waiting to see if either name remains under active consideration as Kennedy’s campaign progresses.
