Maryland Basketball Adds Mady Traore to Roster: Kevin Willard Makes the Announcement

Maryland Basketball offseason is now complete with the official addition of Mady Traore, a 6-foot-11 transfer from New Mexico State.

Terps coach Kevin Willard expressed excitement about Traore’s arrival, highlighting his athleticism, defensive length, and versatile offensive skills.

Traore joins an incoming recruiting class that includes four freshmen and two other transfers. Joran Geronimo from Indiana and Chance Stephens from Loyola Marymount.

Most of the recruits have already arrived on campus, and Traore’s inclusion completes the roster.

Originally from France, Traore moved to Cumberland, Maryland, where he attended Bishop Walsh School and National Christian Academy in Washington, D.C. He then continued his basketball journey at Believe Prep in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Before beginning his college career at New Mexico State.

As a highly regarded recruit, Traore received offers from prominent basketball programs such as N.C. State, Arizona State, Florida, Kansas, Auburn, Oregon, and USC.

He was rated as a three-star prospect in the class of 2022, earning a place in the Top 150 rankings. And being recognized as the sixth overall player in Maryland, according to 247sports.

Maryland Basketball addition of Traore brings the total number of newcomers to seven for the upcoming season. The Terps boast the 15th-ranked recruiting class in the country.

Featuring talented players like DeShawn Harris-Smith, Jamie Kaiser, Jahnathan Lamothe, and Braden Pierce. The recent transfers of Geronimo and Stephens further strengthen the team’s roster.

Known for his unique skills and agility despite his size, Traore’s game is expected to develop further with time and refinement.

His versatility and ability to play multiple positions make him an asset for the team. Although Traore briefly entered the NBA Draft, he withdrew his name after not being listed on any draft boards.

Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the Terps, Traore emphasized his improved overall game, including his confidence, basketball IQ, and shooting abilities.

He views Maryland as an ideal platform to showcase his talents, and the fact that the school is located in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) region is an added bonus for him.

Maryland Basketball is looking to bolster its frontcourt, and Traore will have an opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities in contributing to the team’s success.

With improved skills and confidence in his game, including a more reliable three-point shot, Traore is poised to make an impact for the Terps.
