Rivian Rocks the EV World Again with New Affordable SUV Models
Electric vehicle maker Rivian kept the momentum going at its recent unveiling of the new mid-sized R2 SUV by revealing not one but two additional EV models – the Rivian R3 and R3X. Building upon the success of its first vehicles, the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, Rivian is cementing its place as an industry leader with these new offerings targeted at an even broader customer base.
According to Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, the R3 is a “slightly shorter, sportier-looking” version of the R2 on the same platform but at a lower projected price point. Early photos show its sleeker roofline and sloping rear end for a more dynamic profile than the boxier R2. Both the R3 and performance-focused R3X will be available with two battery options delivering over 300 miles of range.
Power And Performance Without Compromise
The R3X in particular will take things to another level with “more dynamic abilities, both on and off road.” Rivian stated it will accelerate from 0-60 mph in a lightning quick 3 seconds while maintaining the SUV practicality and utility customers have come to expect.
Advanced driver-assist technology and autonomous functionality will also see major improvements, thanks to an upgraded computer and enhanced sensor suite of 11 cameras and 5 radars. Rivian aims to provide drivers with some of the most advanced highway driving capabilities available. Additional family-friendly features like the innovative “flipper glass” rear window and fold-flat rear seats further Rivian’s commitment to versatility.
The R3 and R3X launch is slated for soon after the R2 debut to ensure a smooth production ramp. Rivian looks to repeat its successful simultaneous launch strategy of multiple vehicle classes to accelerate market penetration. With competitive pricing, extended range, and powerful performance on the agenda, the Rivian R3 and R3X have the potential to significantly expand the brand’s customer base and electric vehicle adoption as a whole.
