Biden Emerges Victorious in North Dakota Democratic Primary Battle
President Joe Biden has secured another win, taking the North Dakota Democratic primary contest. In a race that saw minimal opposition, Biden flexed his strength in the state to take the nomination battle.
The North Dakota Democratic primary wrapped up last month, with ballots circulated to party members who requested them. While seven other candidates were listed on the ballot, Biden’s victory was almost assured from the beginning. With the national party coalescing around the incumbent president since 2020. No other candidate mounted a serious campaign in the state.
Biden will now take all of North Dakota’s 18 delegates to the national convention. This adds to his already insurmountable lead, having secured the majority of pledged delegates from contests across the country. With the North Dakota Democratic primary in his pocket, Biden is on track for his party’s nomination to seek a second term in 2024.
Biden’s Grip on the Party
Biden has maintained a strong hold on the Democratic party since taking office in 2021. With a mixed record of legislative accomplishments and economic challenges, he still faces no serious challengers from within his own ranks. The lack of opposition was reflected in North Dakota, where no other candidate actively campaigned. This allows Biden to focus fully on the general election ahead, where he will aim to fend off the Republican nominee.
Biden’s victory in the North Dakota Democratic primary was widely expected, given his incumbent status and the absence of major rivals. With delegates banked from this and other early contests, he can now turn attention to the broader 2024 race. Securing his party’s nomination is all but guaranteed at this point.
