Boston Marathon Champions Crowned in Thrilling 2024 Race
Sisay Lemma and Hellen Obiri emerged victorious after a dramatic running of the 2024 Boston Marathon, etching their names into the historic race’s record books.
Lemma broke away from the men’s field in the early miles, showcasing the speed that led him to set a new course record in London last year. The Ethiopian pushed a grueling pace from the start, opening up a massive lead and never looking back on his way to crossing the finish line in 2:06:17. His countryman Mohamed Esa closed strong to take second, while Evans Chebet rounded out the podium in third.
In the women’s competition, defending champion Hellen Obiri held off a fierce late challenge from fellow Kenyan Sharon Lokedi. Obiri proved she has the endurance to match her speed, outkicking Lokedi on the final stretch to secure back-to-back wins in 2:22:37. The Kenyans dominated the women’s race yet again, with former champion Edna Kiplagat claiming third.
