Palo Alto-based startup Glean has unveiled Glean Chat, an AI assistant designed to enhance productivity and efficiency within enterprises.

This generative AI application, an extension of Glean’s enterprise search product, offers a conversational search interface and provides source citations for information found.

Glean Chat’s Position in a Competitive Market

Glean Chat

The structure of Glean Chat involves five layers: infrastructure, connectors, a governance engine, a knowledge graph, and an adaptive AI layer.

The application connects to various enterprise applications and data sources through its self-developed connectors.

The governance layer ensures compliance with security policies and boundaries set by the enterprise. The knowledge graph layer, developed over time, understands relationships and internal language within the enterprise.

The adaptive AI layer leverages the knowledge graph and large language models for semantic understanding and generative AI.

While Glean Chat faces competition in the crowded generative AI market. Its approach of training large language models on specific enterprise data brings value as a searchable knowledge repository.

The application connectors, strict permissions control, and governance tools integration also differentiate Glean Chat. However, gaining visibility and surviving in the market will be a challenge.

Regarding trust in Glean Chat’s results, it is essential for companies to provide methods to understand and explain the generated recommendations.

Grounding processes ensure accuracy in search results, offering semantic precision. Glean plans to introduce more granular citations for search results in the future.

Glean Chat will be price on a per seat basis and offered as a premium add on to Glean’s core search product. The application is currently in early access for Glean customers and will be made generally available soon.

Glean already serves over 100 enterprise customers, including Databricks, Okta, Niantic, and Duolingo. The startup has raised approximately $155 million in funding from investors such as Sequoia and Lightspeed.
