Shoppers Have Until June to Claim Part of $45 Million Walmart Settlement
Walmart shoppers who purchased certain groceries between 2018-2024 have until June 5th to submit a claim for part of a $45 million Walmart settlement. The class action lawsuit alleged Walmart overcharged customers for groceries sold by weight.
The class action lawsuit charged that Walmart customers paid more than the advertised lowest price for products like meat, seafood and bagged fruits sold by weight. As part of the agreed upon Walmart settlement. Eligible customers can receive up to $500 depending on their receipts and attestations.
Even small purchases could qualify customers to make a claim. Those without receipts can still submit a claim for between $10-25 dollars depending on how many qualifying products they purchased. Eligible customers only need to fill out a simple online form with purchase details to take part in the Walmart settlement.
How Much Are Claims Worth?
Claim amounts will be calculated as 2% of the total cost of weighted goods and bagged citrus purchased during the claim period, capped at $500. For example, if a customer spent $1000 on eligible items they could receive $20. Walmart has denied any wrongdoing, but determined a settlement was in the best interest of all parties involved.
The deadline to opt-out of the Walmart settlement was May 22nd, doing nothing will bind customers to the settlement terms. A final approval hearing is scheduled for June 12th. For customers who regularly shopped at Walmart, taking a few minutes to potentially receive free money as part of this Walmart settlement seems well worth the time. Eligible customers only have until June 5th to submit their claim, so they should act soon if they wish to participate.
