George Santos Makes a Surprising Return to Politics

In a shocking move, former New York Congressman George Santos announced he is launching a campaign to return to Congress. Santos, who represented New York’s 3rd District until being expelled last year, will primary incumbent Republican Rep. Nick LaLota in the state’s competitive 1st District.

Santos’ bid is sure to stir up controversy given his tumultuous exit from office last year. He was the sixth member ever expelled from the House. After being convicted on 23 federal charges including fraud and lying on financial disclosures. In a statement, he said “If finishing the job of holding Santos accountable requires beating him in a primary, count me in.” LaLota was instrumental in leading the effort to expel Santos from Congress last year.
