Google Wallet Makes Payments and Tickets Even Easier to Manage

Google is continuing to improve its digital wallet Google Wallet with a new feature that automatically adds related tickets and passes. This will help users keep all their payment and event information in one convenient place.

The latest update introduces a “Linked Passes” setting that is enabled by default. This allows pass providers to automatically add additional tickets, promotions, and offers to a user’s existing passes in Google Wallet. For example, if you have a loyalty card stored, any relevant offers could be attached. Or a parking pass might be linked to a concert ticket.

The goal is to reduce clutter and make important travel documents like boarding passes and tickets easier to find. Up to seven standard pass types are supported for auto-linking, including events, transit, loyalty programs and more. Developers can pre-link passes as well to streamline the process.

Users will see a notification above any primary pass if a new linked pass is added. This helps maintain organization and avoids missing related documents. The new setting aims to keep customers’ hands-free while still giving them control, as it can be disabled. Only time will tell if pass providers overdo promotions, or if Google Wallet strikes the right balance.

With over 300 million installed, Google Wallet is many people’s go-to digital wallet. These updates help cement its role as a one-stop shop for both payments and event ticketing. As mobile payments continue growing, quality-of-life improvements like linked passes will be key to driving further adoption. Look for the feature to roll out more widely on Android devices soon.
