Inside Job Uncovered in Billion Dollar Gold Theft At Toronto Airport
Canadian authorities have cracked a billion dollar case, making 6 arrests connected to the country’s largest ever gold theft. Last April nearly 400kg of gold bars worth $14.5 million were stolen from Toronto Pearson airport in an audacious heist. A year-long investigation revealed the airport theft to be an inside job, with a former Air Canada cargo employee among those arrested.
In a press conference, Detective Mike Mavity of Peel Regional Police detailed the complex operation. Gold and cash had arrived on a flight from Europe and was loaded onto a truck by an airport worker using forged documents. When officials discovered the shipment missing 24 hours later, CCTV footage was reviewed showing the vehicle’s route before the trail went cold.
The Suspects in The Billion Dollar Airport Gold Theft
Those arrested so far include former Air Canada manager Parmpal Sidhu, jewelry store owner Ali Raza and 3 others. Meanwhile, warrants have been issued for Air Canada manager Simran Grover and 2 other men believed to have played key roles in the carefully planned gold theft.
Only $65,000 of the stolen gold has been recovered after being melted down. Meanwhile, the truck driver allegedly involved was arrested in the US for firearms offenses. The investigation is ongoing and police have appealed for any information about the remaining 3 suspects who evaded capture in the billion dollar gold theft last year.
