Nicole Shanahan – The Silicon Valley Lawyer Looking to Disrupt Politics
Robert F Kennedy Jr is taking an unconventional approach in his independent bid for the White House. In a bid to attract younger voters and those disillusioned by the two major parties, he has selected Nicole Shanahan as his running mate. The 38-year old Nicole Shanahan is a political newcomer but brings significant financial backing from her work in Silicon Valley.
As a wealthy lawyer and investor, Shanahan has already contributed over $4.5 million to Kennedy’s campaign. This financial support will be crucial as Kennedy aims to get on the ballot in all 50 states. Nicole Shanahan also shares similar views to Kennedy on issues like vaccines, GMOs and the environment. At a rally in Oakland, Kennedy praised Nicole Shanahan’s experience in technology and intellectual property issues.
Meet Nicole Shanahan
Shanahan is no stranger to overcoming obstacles. The daughter of immigrants, she grew up in Oakland and saw her mother work as a caretaker while her father struggled with substance abuse issues. She would go on to achieve success as a lawyer after a difficult childhood. Her interest in health and environmental issues grew after her daughter was diagnosed with autism. Nicole Shanahan believes chronic disease and toxins in the environment need to be addressed.
Democratic opponents criticize Kennedy’s campaign as divisive and claim Shanahan has no political experience. However, Kennedy sees her as a “gifted administrator” who can help “free the country”. It remains to be seen if the unconventional ticket of Kennedy and Shanahan can gain traction. But their focus on issues like vaccines and GMOs shows they aim to energize those disaffected with both major parties.
