Sir Keir Starmer Calls for Action in Gaza Conflict

The ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer calling for decisive action to achieve lasting peace. As the death toll rises, politicians in the UK are urging all sides to find a solution.

Sir Keir believes a ceasefire must be put in place immediately to stop the violence and protect innocent lives. Speaking at the Scottish Labour conference in Glasgow, he said “A ceasefire that lasts. This is what must happen now. The fighting must stop now.” While he did not use the word “immediate” like the SNP motion, his message was clear – an end to hostilities is urgently needed.

Time for Talks, Not Tactics

Sir Keir Starmer

With tensions high, now is the time for diplomacy, not maneuvers. Sir Keir and others want to see the parties sit down and negotiate in good faith. As Sir Keir noted, any agreement must be sustainable and address the root causes of the conflict, not just pause the fighting temporarily. Only through open dialogue and compromise can a long-term solution be found.

The international community must support efforts to facilitate talks. David Lammy said parliamentary votes alone won’t secure peace – what’s required is commitment from all sides, including Hamas, Israel, and partners who can help guide the process. As the death toll climbs ever higher, the urgent priority is protecting lives. But a lasting peace will only come through understanding and agreement between the communities in Gaza and Israel. Sir Keir Starmer believes leaders must take that difficult first step towards negotiations without delay.
