Introducing Pepper X: The New ‘Hottest Pepper in the World’
A new champion has risen in the realm of peppers. The title of the Hottest pepper in the world now belongs to the crinkled yellow-green chili known as Pepper X. This blazing challenger has received recognition, from the Guinness World Records establishing a benchmark, for intense heat.
The Scoville Scale: Measuring the Heat
The spiciness level of a pepper is determined by the Scoville Scale. Which quantifies the amount of capsaicinoids, in peppers for their fiery taste. To provide some perspective a jalapeño falls within the range of 2,000 to 8,000 SHUs (Scoville Heat Units).
However, the Hottest pepper in the world, Pepper X, boasts an average of 2.693 million SHUs. This represents an increase compared to its competitor, the Carolina Reaper, which had an average of 1.64 million SHUs. Ed Currie, the genius, behind both of these creations points out that Pepper Xs heat is three times that of the Reaper.

For chili enthusiasts consuming a whole Pepper X poses quite a challenge. According to Currie it delivers an intense burning sensation followed by disorientation. And various physical reactions like tingling sensations and chest tightness.
Interestingly the throat burn caused by Pepper X is not as immediate as with the Reaper. It takes some time to make its presence felt after the onslaught.
One fascinating aspect about peppers is that their spiciness is primarily concentrated in the placenta inside them than, in their seeds. The title of Hottest pepper in the world is further solidified by Pepper X’s unique bumpy exterior, which allows more room for the fiery placenta to grow.
Currie’s team had perfected Pepper X nearly a decade ago but chose to reveal it now, confident in its unmatched heat, solidifying its position as the Hottest pepper in the world.
