King Charles Speaks Out in Support of Ukraine’s Struggle for Freedom
As the war in Ukraine enters its third year, King Charles has issued a strongly-worded message of solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russian aggression.
On the two-year anniversary of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, King Charles commended the courage and determination of President Zelensky and the entire Ukrainian nation in the face of “indescribable aggression.” While the hardship endured by civilians has been immense, King Charles praised the “true valor” demonstrated daily by those defending Ukraine’s sovereignty.
An Unambiguous Show of Support
It is unusual for King Charles to speak so unambiguously about an active military conflict. However, the strength of his sympathies for Ukraine’s struggle are clear. Beyond offering words of support, King Charles has met with Ukrainian refugees in both the UK and Romania. He has also visited London’s Ukrainian community and told the French Senate of the “importance of a Ukrainian victory.”
As the war enters its third winter, King Charles called for continued international assistance to help Ukraine through “this time of great suffering and need.” From military training for Ukrainian soldiers in the UK to billions in additional aid pledged by Prime Minister Sunak, King Charles welcomed the life-saving support that allies have provided thus far. With determination and solidarity, Ukraine can withstand this “indescribable aggression” and emerge victorious in its defense of freedom.
