Timberwolves Take Flight in Playoff Opener

The Minnesota Timberwolves soared past the Phoenix Suns 120-95 in Game 1 of their first round playoff series. Anthony Edwards led the way with 33 points as the Timberwolves took control early and never looked back.

Edwards caught fire in the third quarter, scoring 18 of his 33 points to help the Timberwolves break the game open. “We knew we had to play with energy and take advantage of being at home,” said Edwards. The young star took advantage of the moment, dominating on both ends of the court and lifting the Target Center crowd into a frenzy with highlight play after highlight play.

While Edwards flew high, the Timberwolves defense clamped down on the Suns. Phoenix struggled to find any rhythm outside of Kevin Durant’s 31 points. “Our size really bothered them,” said Timberwolves coach Chris Finch. Rudy Gobert anchored the paint with 14 points and 16 rebounds, altering countless shots and making it difficult for the Suns to penetrate.

A Complete Team Effort

It wasn’t just Edwards powering the Timberwolves to victory. Nickeil Alexander-Walker provided a huge lift off the bench with 18 points and 4 steals. Karl-Anthony Towns added 13 points and helped space the floor. Even role players like Naz Reid made key contributions in the win. Working as a cohesive unit on both ends of the court, the Timberwolves took the first step in proving they are not your average #6 seed.

The Timberwolves will look to keep their momentum going as the series shifts to Phoenix. With their explosive offense and smothering defense clicking, Minnesota believes this could be the start of a deep playoff run. Edwards is leading the charge after his breakout performance, but the Timberwolves know it will take continued teamwork and effort to advance past the talented Suns. The future looks bright for this young Minnesota Timberwolves squad.
