NJ Loses A True Public Servant, Donald Payne Passed Away At 65
It’s an extremely sad day for the state of New Jersey as they lost a tireless advocate and true public servant. Donald Payne, the Representative of NJ’s 10th district passed away last week at the age of 65 due to health issues. Donald Payne who was born and raised in Newark served the people of his district for over a decade continuing the legacy of his father who also represented NJ in Congress.
A lifelong resident of Newark, Donald Payne knew the struggles of the people in his district and fought passionately for them. He championed causes like funding for NJ’s overburdened public transportation, lead testing in school water and increasing healthcare access. In his role as the Chairman of Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, Donald Payne played a key role in securing $900 million for the Gateway Project in 2017.
A Beloved Figure Who Will Be Dearly Missed
The news of Donald Payne’s passing was received with great sorrow by everyone who knew him. Leaders from across the state mourned the loss of a true public servant who dedicated his life to improving lives of others.
