Addressing Outstanding Issues

Canadian Counterpart

It is believed that Jaishankar and Canadian counterpart also focused on addressing some pressing bilateral issues that have created recent tensions. This includes the allegations levelled by Canadian PM Justin Trudeau regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has denied the claims. Both sides seem committed to finding an amicable resolution to concerns.

Overall, the talks between EAM Jaishankar and Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly seem aimed at taking the India-Canada partnership forward in a more positive direction. With goodwill on both sides, opportunities exist to enhance cooperation in trade & investment, defence & security and other key areas. Strengthening people-to-people ties also came up for discussion during the meeting.
