Trump’s Visit to North Carolina Cut Short Due to Severe Weather
Former president Donald Trump had plans to visit North Carolina this past weekend but severe weather changed those plans. Trump was scheduled to hold a rally in Wilmington on Saturday evening but only 30 minutes before it was set to start, the event was canceled due to an incoming storm. The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the area.
Earlier that day, Trump and Melania Trump attended separate fundraisers in different states. Trump held a fundraiser in North Carolina in the afternoon to raise money for his campaign and the Republican party. The event was expected to bring in over $5 million. Meanwhile, Melania headlined a fundraiser for a conservative LGBT group at Mar-a-Lago in Florida in the evening.
Fundraising Efforts in the Tar Heel State
Trump’s North Carolina fundraiser featured prominent Republican donors and the state’s National Committeeman Ed Broyhill. Money raised was intended to be split among Trump’s campaign, PAC, the RNC and other state GOP committees. One attendee said high-level donors expected the event to surpass the $5 million goal.
While the weather cut Trump’s visit short, Republican leaders in North Carolina remain confident about GOP success in the state. One said there was “no chance” Biden would win North Carolina again. Both Biden and Harris campaigned there last month but Republicans hold control of other statewide seats.
