The highly anticipated Henley Royal Regatta 2023 is poised to captivate audiences with an impressive lineup of 420 boats competing in a variety of races. This year’s event received the second-highest number of entries in its long history, with 732 participants, just seven fewer than the record-breaking figures of the previous year.

After last Friday’s qualifiers, the final selection process reduced the entries to 420, marking the start of six action-packed days of racing from June 27 to July 2.

Henley Royal Regatta 2023 boasts the second-highest number of entries ever recorded in its 184-year history, attracting 732 participants. The Wyfold and Prince of Wales events witnessed an increase in entries, while the Thames and Double Sculls experienced a slight decrease.

Qualifying rounds proved challenging, with notable eliminations in the Temple event, which saw 48 crews removed, and the junior quad events, with 46 crews eliminated from the Fawley and 30 from the Diamond Jubilee. The Wyfold event witnessed a reduction of 28 crews, while the Diamonds saw a decrease of 26 scullers.

Sir Steve Redgrave, Chairman of the Committee of Management, emphasized the importance of establishing pathways from junior levels to elite squads and supporting athletes in their rowing careers.

The presence of accomplished athletes adds excitement to the regatta. Helen Glover, Britain’s double Olympic champion, will compete in The Town Challenge Cup, inspiring junior women’s crews with her remarkable achievements.

In the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup, a significant rule change allows open clubs, in addition to schools, to participate for the first time.

This change broadens the pathways for junior men’s eights, showcasing talent from various clubs worldwide and raising the standard of this renowned event.
