UAW Reaches Tentative Agreement with Stellantis: A New Chapter

In a breakthrough the UAW has reached an agreement, with Stellantis signifying a significant turning point, in the labor relations of the automotive industry. The UAW reaches tentative agreement with Stellantis, the conglomerate behind iconic brands like Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, and Jeep.

UAW President Shawn Fain and Vice President Rich Boyer, who were the negotiators, in the talks expressed excitement when they made this announcement. They hailed it as a victory, for the union.

UAW Reaches Tentative Agreement with Stellantis

“On the day of our Stand Up Strike our union has shown resilience achieving what many believed to be unattainable ” proudly announced Shawn Fain, on X formerly known as Twitter.

A notable accomplishment of the UAWs agreement is the revival of an assembly plant in Illinois that had previously shut down in February resulting in 1,200 job losses. This achievement along with victories for the union highlights the UAWs commitment to its members.

A Union Triumph

The 14,600 UAW members who participated in the strike at Stellantis are expected to return to work. However there is still some uncertainty as around 4,000 GM factory workers, from Spring Hill Tennessee have now joined the strike.

Following the UAW reaches tentative agreement with Stellantis, a similar deal was struck with Ford. Both of these agreements are currently awaiting approval, from their members before they can be put into effect.

Although the details of the Stellantis agreement have not been disclosed it is believed that the salary structure will be similar, to the Ford deal, which includes a 11% raise. The contract is also anticipated to include a cost of living adjustment (COLA) to protect members from the impact of inflation.

A surprising element in the UAW reaches tentative agreement with Stellantis is the company’s pledge to reopen the plant in Belvidere, Illinois. This facility has been established to produce a truck replacing the previously manufactured Jeep Cherokee compact SUV.

“We’ve accomplished something that seemed impossible. We have revived a plant that the company had previously closed ” Fain emphasized, stressing the dedication of the UAW.

The agreements, with Stellantis and Ford offer increases in pay and benefits for union members addressing the impact of inflation on workers salaries. Considering the offers made by car manufacturers it is likely that GMs negotiations will also result in advantages for its employees.

If all agreements with the Big Three are approved it could signify the end of the autoworkers strike in 25 years. The UAW remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for its members and ensuring a future, for all parties involved.
