Rebel Wilson Opens Up About Late Discovery of Sexuality in Memoir

Comedic actress Rebel Wilson is known for her hilarious roles in movies like Pitch Perfect, but in her new memoir Rebel Rising, the 44-year-old gets candid about her personal journey with sexuality and relationships. In an exclusive interview with People, Wilson reveals she lost her virginity at 35 and hopes sharing her story encourages others to feel less pressure about societal expectations.

Growing up, Rebel Wilson says she avoided talking about her lack of experience as a teenager due to embarrassment. She would deflect or leave the room when the topic came up among friends. “Normally I would just leave the room when the conversation was happening,” she shares. “And then the people that said, ‘Oh, at 24, it’s so late.’ And then I’m sitting here thinking, ‘Oh my God, my number’s 35. What the hell? I’m going to look like the biggest loser.'”

A Different Time

Rebel Wilson believes if she was born 20 years later, her self-discovery may have looked different. “It’s absolutely incredible, if I had been born 20 years later, I probably would’ve explored my sexuality more,” she reflects. Now in a happy relationship with designer Ramona Agruma and a new mother, Wilson wants others to feel less pressure about when and how they find love.

In her memoir, Rebel Wilson opens up about her journey for the first time to show people that waiting is okay. “People can wait till they’re ready or wait till they’re a bit more mature,” she says. “You obviously don’t have to wait until you’re in your thirties like me, but you shouldn’t feel pressure as a young person.”
