Liverpool Surge Past Blades with Late Heroics

The Liverpool knew they couldn’t afford any slip-ups in the title race as they hosted Sheffield United at Anfield. However, it was the Blades who started brighter, testing Alisson with a couple of early chances. The Reds grew into the game though, and took the lead through Darwin Nunez after he pressed the goalkeeper into an error.

Sheffield United didn’t let their heads drop and continued to pose a threat on the counter. Their pressure told as Conor Bradley turned into his own net, drawing the visitors level. Anfield grew tense as the second half progressed with no further goals.

Alexis Mac Allister’s Magic

Liverpool

That was until Liverpool talisman Alexis Mac Allister stepped up with a moment of magic. Receiving the ball just outside the box, the Argentine wizard smashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner to restore the home side’s advantage. The goal eased the nerves and allowed Liverpool to dominate the closing stages.

Substitute Cody Gakpo put the result beyond all doubt, heading home a late third. The 3-1 victory moves Liverpool two points clear at the Premier League summit with eight games left to play. While the title race looks set to go down to the wire, Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with his side’s resilience and ability to finish strongly once more.
