Matt Araiza Lands New Punting Gig in KC
Well whaddya know, Matt Araiza has found himself a new football home. Just months after getting booted from Buffalo following some ugly rape allegations from his SDSU days, the one-time “Punt God” has inked a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. Word is Andy Reid saw some potential in the kid and was willing to give him a shot to prove himself.
Course, this ain’t exactly the smoothest of landing spots for ol’ Matt Araiza. KC fans sure do love their Chiefs, but they also take character pretty seriously. Araiza’s gonna have to keep his nose squeaky clean if he wants to earn the trust of fans and teammates. Plus he’s replacing a hometown hero in Tommy Townsend, who was beloved after putting up Pro Bowl numbers last year. So the pressure will be on for Araiza to deliver the goods right away.
How’d This All Go Down?
From what I hear, Matt Araiza agent Joe Linta started making calls around the league after the lawsuit got dropped. He must’ve done a sales job on Veach because apparently the GM was willing to roll the dice. Araiza released a statement thanking the Chiefs for “this opportunity” and saying he’s “thrilled” to continue his NFL career. Whether the fans will share that thrill remains to be seen. Dude definitely has some trust to gain in KC.
Only time will tell if Matt Araiza can punt his way into the hearts of Chiefs Kingdom. If he starts booming them deep and pinning opponents back with consistency, the fans may come around. But one slip up off the field and all the goodwill will disappear quick. High-risk high-reward move here – we’ll see if it pays off for both Araiza and the Chiefs. Strap in, this could be an interesting ride.
