Simona Halep Back in Action
Former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep can resume her illustrious tennis career with immediate effect after a successful doping appeal. The Romanian tennis star had her four-year ban reduced to just nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). After testing positive for a banned substance at the 2022 US Open.
Halep, now 32, vehemently denied intentionally ingesting the prohibited substance roxadustat and argued it came from a contaminated nutritional supplement. While the CAS panel found Halep bore some fault for not exercising sufficient care. It ruled she showed “no significant fault or negligence” for the initial positive test. It also dismissed a second anti-doping violation related to her Athlete Biological Passport.
