Joe Burrow Secures His Arsenal For 2024: Tee Returns To Cincinnati
The Bengals have ensured franchise quarterback Joe Burrow will have his most lethal weapons by his side next season, applying the franchise tag to retain star wide receiver Tee Higgins.
In a move set to delight Burrow, the Bengals placed the $21.8 million franchise tag on Higgins, keeping the 25-year-old in Cincinnati for at least one more year. Higgins joins Pro Bowl wideout Ja’Marr Chase, drafted by the Bengals in 2021, as Burrow’s top targets on the outside.
Since being selected first overall by the Bengals in 2020, Burrow has enjoyed immense success alongside Higgins and Chase. The trio have connected for over 6,000 receiving yards and 50 touchdowns in their three seasons together already. In 2021, both Higgins and Chase eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark, powering Cincinnati to the AFC Championship game behind Burrow’s arm.
Burrow’s Dynamic Duo Stays Intact
Retaining Higgins ensures Burrow can rely on his most bold weapons as the Bengals look to take the next step in 2024. While injuries limited Higgins’ production slightly last season, he remains a towering red zone threat capable of spectacular grabs. His chemistry with Burrow is evident on the field, where both players seem to know where the other will be before the snap.
With Chase and Higgins flanking him for another year, Burrow will believe he possesses the tools to deliver Cincinnati a long-awaited Super Bowl triumph. The franchise’s decision to franchise tag Higgins means their young, talented core remains intact, keeping the Bengals’ championship aspirations bold.
