Fowler Claims Victory in Classic Masters Par 3 Contest
The Masters Par 3 Contest is a long-standing tradition that takes place each year on the Wednesday prior to the Masters Tournament at Augusta National. Held on the club’s nine-hole par-3 course located just next to the championship layout, it provides players and their families an opportunity to enjoy a lighthearted competition before the pressures of the Masters begin. This year was no different, with the stars of the PGA Tour gathering to compete for the crystal bowl awarded to the winner.
American star Rickie Fowler proved himself the man to beat, posting an impressive score of 5-under 22 to claim victory at the 2024 Masters Par 3 Contest. Fowler’s performance saw him finish two shots clear of runners-up Sepp Straka, J.T. Poston and amateur Santiago de la Fuente. In addition to his stellar play, Fowler was able to relax and enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere of the event alongside his wife and young daughter.
Holes-In-One Provide Additional Thrills
As well as the battle toward the top of the leaderboard, five players were also able to record holes-in-one during their rounds at the iconic par-3 course. The aces began with a hole-out from local hero Luke List on the 6th hole, before Gary Woodland, Sepp Straka, Lucas Glover and Viktor Hovland all followed suit in draining spectacular aces of their own. The holes-in-one drew raucous roars from the patrons and provided extra drama during a day filled with relaxed competition and enjoyment of the Masters Par 3 Contest traditions.
While victory at the Masters Par 3 Contest does not directly translate to success at the Masters Tournament itself, Rickie Fowler will hope his performance can provide a confidence boost as he begins his quest for a green jacket. The Masters Par 3 Contest once again served as the perfect prelude to the year’s first major championship, setting the scene for an unforgettable week under the Georgia pines.
