Strong Storm Kathleen Winds to Batter UK This Weekend
The UK is bracing for impact from Storm Kathleen this weekend. Named by Irish forecasters, Met Éireann, the storm is set to track across Ireland on Saturday before winds spread into Britain. Gusts could reach over 70mph in exposed coastal locations. Storm Kathleen has the potential to cause travel delays and power outages.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind covering much of the UK on Saturday. Winds are expected to strengthen throughout the day, peakng in the afternoon and evening. Storm Kathleen will pull very warm air northwards, so despite the blustery conditions some eastern areas may hit 20C – making it the hottest day so far this year.
How Will Storm Kathleen Impact Your Area?
Coastal regions will bear the brunt of Storm Kathleen’s strongest winds but inland gusts of 50mph are still likely. Ferry crossings may be cancelled and bridges closed for safety reasons. Drivers should be prepared for disrupted journeys with debris and fallen tree branches possible. Power cuts could also affect some homes if overhead lines are damaged. Check weather and travel updates before setting out.
By Sunday conditions will gradually ease as Storm Kathleen pulls away northeastwards. Some showers may still affect northern areas but it will be less windy. Next week looks to remain unsettled with further weather systems bringing rain and breezier interludes at times across the UK.
