When Will We Daylight Savings Time And Spring Forward?
It’s that time of year again when Canadians will have to adjust to daylight savings time. On March 10, 2024 at 2am, most of Canada will set their clocks forward by one hour to welcome the extended daylight hours of spring. While losing that hour of sleep, the time change allows for more daylight in the evenings throughout late spring and summer months.
Some key things to know about the upcoming daylight savings time transition include that provinces like Saskatchewan, parts of Quebec and BC don’t observe it. The practice began as a way to maximize daylight hours and conserve energy. Historically various places tried it out at different times, but now Canada follows the second Sunday in March as the start date for daylight savings time.
How to Prepare For The Time Change
Experts recommend getting enough rest in the days leading up to the time change to make adjusting to the lost hour easier. Things like going to bed on time, limiting screen time before bed, and avoiding caffeine can help you rest fully. Getting outside exposure to natural light during the day and limiting light exposure at night also supports your body’s internal clock. Proper sleep hygiene will prepare you to spring forward!
While losing an hour of sleep is an adjustment, daylight savings time means enjoying extra daylight in the evenings as spring and summer arrive. Be sure to prepare your sleep schedule in the coming weeks. Before we know it, March 10th will be here and we’ll get to experience that later sunset with the start of daylight savings time 2024.
